“Across the supply chain, companies are facing today’s particular challenges with renewed resilience and community-oriented initiatives. GR Fresh is one of many on the supply-side ensuring that both its employee team and its local community are well taken care of as COVID-19 continues to develop.
Externally, the grower is distributing healthy food to the doctors and nurses fighting on the frontlines of the pandemic and to consumers via a produce box initiative. Internally, GR Fresh has implemented proper safety procedures in order to keep its staff safe with the necessary equipment to do so. I chatted with Luis Jorge Villalobos and Montserrat Segura to learn more about GR Fresh’s latest efforts.”

“For more than 70 years, GR Fresh has been delivering high-quality products in a region synonymous for produce. As the grower continues to develop this vision, it broke ground on a new, 100,000-square-foot facility in McAllen, Texas. I tapped Tony Incaviglia, Vice President of Sales, to learn about what this new facility means for the company at large.”
On February 20th, 2020 at 9:30 p.m. the groundbreaking ceremony for new GR FRESH Cold Storage facility took place with the presence of government officials from the City of McAllen, Tx.
McAllen EDC Board Chair Paul Moxley began the ceremony with a few words where he recognizes that this project is an important event for both the city of McAllen and GR Fresh “this is a great day for us”.
Later, McAllen City Mayor Jim Darling spoke a few words where he mentioned that it was also the 109th anniversary of the City of McAllen and recognized the importance of the relationship between McAllen and Mexico “it is a great day for McAllen, we are very happy to have the González family here, there are 90 jobs and 100,000 square feet… this is an extension of Mexico and that what happens in Mexico happens here and vice versa ”
Mr. Michael Scaief, Board of Texas Regional Bank Chairman, also gave us a few words where he mentioned the beginnings of the company GR and its founder Juan González Reyes, as well as the growth of it… “Today is a celebration for many reasons: the hard work and effort that the González-Rubio family has made to expand their business in the United States, for productive partnerships with banks established for the foundation of this project, the support of the city of McAllen and banking corporations so that there may be expansions of companies in the city of McAllen.
GR Fresh CEO Miguel González reaffirmed the commitment to provide fresh and quality food to American families and thanked the GR Fresh team…”I would also like to congratulate the GR Fresh team for their commitment, service and daily dedication. This first stone symbolizes the love and our great passion that we call work”
To close the ceremony, VPO GR Fresh Luis Roberto Webb thanked all those involved in this project again and pointed out some information about it and the benefits… “The construction has been designed and planned to meet and exceed our customer’s needs, City and Federal agencies codes and regulations in terms of sound structural engineering, employee safety, product quality and freshness but most important food safety”.
“This project is more than just bricks and mortar,” said Scaief. “It is an important part of the greater effort to establish strategic investments that stimulate and support the economy and social developments of our region.”
